Some Reflections on Design Projects
For Design Project 1 students sought to understand aspects of Mumbai.
For Design Project 2 we enlarge the sphere of engagement to Maharashtra (actually to some districts of Maharashtra).
The journey in each design project could proceed progressively outwards.
We begin with the self, then our immediate environment at IIT, Powai, Mumbai...Maharashtra, India, Asia...and then the world.

The outward movement is accompanied by an inward movement of understanding one's self a little better.
Even as we seek to understand our own localities and the communities around us, we attempt to understand what interests we have.
What material we wish to shape. What issues affect us. What are our political postures.
What is the Left? Who is Right? Is being centred, the same as being apolitical?
We know ourselves better by reflecting and writing.
We seek to understand the world by learning how to make friends when we go out to interact.
We analyze what we see, what we listen and all that we are told but hesitate to come to quick conclusions.
We Draw.We learn how light can transform the photographs we take;
how to make someone comfortable even as seek to record what they have to say.

We seek to create but with an imagination that is grounded.
We learn how one may be critical of one's own work and its limitations.
